So I was reminded of the giving tree. As a piece of art, it’s phenomenal because there’s a lot of different interpretations of the meaning, but on a personal level, it brings out thoughts that I probably need to hear, but am not yet ready to.
The story’s about a tree that keeps giving, and a boy that keeps taking. It starts small, food, shelter, play, but then it gets big. Money, so the tree lends her apples to sell, a house wife and kids, so the tree lends her branches, and lastly… escape, so the tree lends her trunk to build a boat, leaving only a stump.
To me, it’s an allegory for giving up too much of yourself for the sake of others, they don’t need to take and take and take, but they do need to take more than they should of your kindness.
I see a lot of myself in that tree… CRIT -100 Psychic Damage
